FAQ
What Can Komodo Do for Me?
Komodo offers personalized technology consulting, development and adaptation services for Disabled individuals of all ages.
Komodo also provides technical consulting as well as research and development services for organizations interested in supporting the lives of Disabled individuals.
What is an OpenLab?
An OpenLab is a place dedicated to the development of novel technologies, which may be freely used, modified, duplicated, evaluated, distributed and/or built upon by any member of the community.
Why is Komodo an OpenLab?
We have a couple of reasons:
- Above all, Komodo has a strong social commitment. Rather than maximizing profits, our primary goal is to establish and maximize our positive impact in the community at large, but particularly, within the Disabled community in Canada and abroad. We believe the OpenLab model is the best way to achieve this goal.
- Every Disabled person is unique and thus requires uniquely customized technological solutions. This is why traditional mass market paradigms, based on one-size-fits-all design approaches, fail often when applied to the context of disability. Releasing our technologies through patenting and other exclusive licensing mechanisms would prevent you from creating adaptations to satisfy your own needs and would hinder our ability to do the work we enjoy the most, that is, engineering new and improved solutions!
What is Disability?
Disability is difference as the product of natural human diversity. Sometimes this difference is caused by accident or disease.
Why does Komodo focus on Disability?
At Komodo, we thrive on the challenge of difference, both personally and professionally. Every Disabled person we meet, teaches us something new, every device, adaptation or technology requested from us pushes the boundary of our knowledge and abilities.
